From 1965 onward, the United States intensified its military aid to the Saigon regime with the aim of reversing the course of the war in South Vietnam. Direct military assistance constituted the largest
portion of U.S aid, encompassing infrastructure construction, weapons supply, and the training and
operational support of the South Vietnamese Army. Thanks to this aid, the Saigon army was expanded
and modernized. However, U.S military assistance ultimately failed to secure victory for the United States in the Vietnam War.
