Comrade Duong Quang Dong, former Secretary of the Cochinchina Party Committee and former Secretary of the Tra Vinh Provincial Party Committee, was one of the most prominent figures of the Vietnamese Revolution in general and of the Southern Revolution in particular. A steadfast communist fighter, he endured imprisonment and torture under colonial and imperialist rule, made major contributions to rebuilding the Cochinchina Party Committee during the pre-uprising period, and played a decisive role in the August 1945 General Uprising in Tra Vinh. Moreover, he held a particularly important role in mobilizing intellectual and material resources from abroad to support the resistance war against French colonialism in Southern Vietnam (1945 - 1954)
