General Vo Nguyen Giap and revolutionary journalism in Vietnam (1927 - 1945)

Abstract

General Vo Nguyen Giap (1911 - 2013) was a steadfast revolutionary, an eminent political and military figure, and a highly respected leader of the Party, the State, the Army, and the Vietnamese people. Throughout more than half a century of tireless revolutionary activity, General Giap made outstanding contributions in many areas, among which his role in Vietnam’s revolutionary journalism during the period 1927 - 1945 deserves special recognition. His articles played a vital role in raising political awareness, educating the masses and revolutionary cadres, and upholding the fine traditions and noble character of the Vietnamese nation. They also effectively responded to the needs of the Vietnamese revolution throughout various historical stages. If President Ho Chi Minh is considered the “father” and General Secretary Truong Chinh the “elder brother” of revolutionary journalism, then General Vo Nguyen Giap must also be seen as a pillar-a warrior with a pen and a key strategist on the ideological front of the Party.
