Contributions of the military medical force to the implementation of the Geneva Agreement of 1954

Abstract

After the Geneva Agreement was signed (21 July 1954), the Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam made efforts to implement the signed provisions with the support of many forces, including the Vietnam People’s Army. For the implementation of the Agreement, besides other forces of the Army, there was always the companion of military medical staff. With the spirit of “a good doctor and a virtuous mother”, military medical soldiers always followed every step of the soldiers to carry out the tasks of receiving repatriation, returning enemy prisoners, welcoming soldiers and people from the South to the North to gather and actively support them to take over urban areas and newly liberated areas. The presence and contributions of military medical officers and soldiers were one of the key factors to help the People’s Army to implement the provisions of the Agreement properly and effectively.
