Abstract

The Ho Dynasty only existed for 7 years (1400 - 1407), the shortest among the Vietnamese monarchies during the independence period. Ho Quy Ly is considered a bold and fierce reformer who introduced innovative ideas beyond his time, but at the end, the reform of the Ho Dynasty was not successful. Before the invasion of the Ming dynasty, although the Ho Dynasty proactively and actively prepared for resistance war, it failed in the most swift way. Around the Ho Dynasty’s failure, Vietnamese historians unanimously agreed so far it is because of unpopularity. This article aims at analyzing the causes, consequences, and historical lessons of losing the popularity of the Ho dynasty. Thereby it relates to the policy and the practice of building “The combat posture of people’s hearts” in Vietnam. At present, Vietnam contributes to affirming the Party’s sound viewpoint on building political institutions to “consider the people as the root”, “building a strong all-people national defense, an all-people national defense posture associated with a solid people’s security”.
